AFL personalities deliver mental health message to young people

The Brief

Athletes required to attend the end-of-season wrap-up and to help raise awareness of Read the Play’s program and youth mental health.

AFL Personalties deliver mental health message to young people

    Solution

With a target audience of football and netball clubs, Read the Play knew that AFL stars who were willing to open up about their own experiences of mental health would be a perfect fit for their upcoming event.

They reached out to Pickstar one month out from their event, allowing plenty of time to secure the perfect talent.

The staff at Pickstar suggested two former AFL players to Read the Play who they thought would be a great match, putting forward Tom Boyd and Robert DiPierdomenico. Both athletes have been quite open about their own experiences with mental health over the years.

      Outcome

Tom and Dipper's speeches had a big impact on their audience, who hung on every word they said.

After the talks, Dipper and Tom made themselves available to mingle and chat with guests, signed autographs, and had photos taken with those who attended.

Laura Whykes from Read the Play was amazed at the ease of using the Pickstar system and the professionalism shown by all staff involved.

Dipper and Tom met our expectations and I found Pickstar to be a great platform to reach guest speakers and the level of communication and customer service shown by PickStar staff was fantastic," she said.

“We will definitely use Pickstar again in the future and recommend to others."

Sports idols and personalities are incredibly effective at delivering messages and influencing audiences.
