In a seemingly harmless Twitter post a renowned American reporter upset an entire country with his horrifying attempt at eating Australia's most loved meal.

ESPN Sports business reporter Daren Rovell thought he was doing the right thing, little did he know that he had just offended a nation.

Australian company Four 'N Twenty, known for their meat pies, had announced a partnership with the NBA franchise Philadelphia 76ers and the humble yet iconic meat pie would be sold at Sixers home games.

Naturally, Rovell decided to review the new offering and share the experience with his followers.

He can be seen cutting the pie in half and then in half again, massacring the poor morsel. Rovell also missed left out a key ingredient to the full meat pie experience, the tomato sauce.

Twitter soon let him know that he has ruined a national treasure and he responded appropriately after this caution from the Queensland Police:
