It is unique for a sport’s governing body to have a player management arm. Paul explains why and also talks about the marketability of tennis stars, what separates the big names from the rest, and the challenges that most professional tennis players face when trying to make a living.

Paul says he was inspired to pursue the life of a sports agent after living in the pool house of the late Mark McCormack. Mark founded sports management powerhouse IMG, representing the likes of Arnold Palmer, Bjorn Borg, Michael Schumacher, and Charles Barkley.

As the director of the Hopman Cup, Paul reveals how he lured champion, Roger Federer, to the tournament, along with the commercial and branding aspects of tournaments and tennis more broadly.

Paul had success as a professional tennis player in his own right and was among the top few junior tennis players in the world, travelling the world as a teenager and training alongside some of the biggest names in tennis globally.
